The Musketeer in Pennington, Lymington this year celebrates a hat trick of
silver anniversaries. The Musketeer has been in the hands of the Grasham
family for 25 years. Throughout this time the pub has continually earned its
place in CAMRA's Good Beer Guide. When the Grasham family took over, they
were one of the first regular outlets for Ringwood Best Bitter, and have
continued to serve beers from the thriving Hampshire brewery ever since.
Ringwood Brewery celebrated its 25th Anniversary last year.
Ray, Doreen and Phil Grasham moved into The Musketeer in 1978, keen to
promote fine real ale and good homemade food. Phil and Eve Grasham continued
this tradition when they took over running the pub upon Ray's retirement in
1994. At a time when the future of genuine local pubs often appears to be
under threat, The Musketeer is a fine example of how to run a successful pub.
As a result of this impressive record, the Southern Hampshire branch of CAMRA
(The Campaign for Real Ale) decided to honour the Grasham family with the
award of a decorative mirror. The award was made as part of CAMRA's National
Pub Week. On hearing of the intention to present an award, Phil Grasham said
"It is nice to be recognised for keeping good beer for 25 years". David
Welsh, Managing Director of Ringwood Brewery, commented "We would like to
congratulate the Grasham family on their anniversary and award. They have
been a valued customer throughout the brewery's development and we have very
much appreciated their support."
