CAMRACAMRA Press Release

For Immediate Release - 5th June 2008

SWIFT ONE IS HAMPSHIRE BEER OF THE YEAR

Swift One brewed by Bowman Ales was voted Hampshire Beer of the Year at the 12th Southampton Beer Festival. Last year, it was join winner with Oakleaf Brewery's Hole Hearted. This year it won the competition outright.

Swift One was the first beer brewed by Bowman Ales. It is brewed at the purpose-built brewery at Wallops Wood, near Droxford. Swift One is a 3.8% pale, golden and hoppy session beer, with a dry finish.

In recent years, Oakleaf Brewery's Hole Hearted and Cheriton Brewhouse's Village Elder have dominated the competition.

Judging took place on the Thursday evening of Southampton Beer Festival, organised by the Southern Hampshire branch of CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale. The judging panel included experienced beer tasters from the Hampshire branches of CAMRA, Paul Barden, landlord of the Guide Dog in Southampton (Southern Hampshire CAMRA's Pub of the year 2007 & 2008) and Steve Lamond from Southampton University's Real Ale Society.

Customers can sample this year's winning beers, and up to 93 other beers from around the country at the Southampton Beer Festival, which has lunchtime and evening sessions on both Friday 6th and Saturday 7th June. The festival is being held at Southampton Guildhall.
