The Hour Glass is always the first Thursday of the month and Park Inn the second Thursday. The planned itinerary for Southampton this year is on this poster:

October 2026

Sun 4th
12:15pm
Test Valley Rambler Bus
Start & finish Romsey Bus Station, then pubs along the route.
A Sunday jaunt to pubs not normally accessible by public transport.

The Test Valley Rambler (TVR) is a Bluestar early autumn service running on Sundays only until 1st November.

Pick up the TVR at Romsey Bus Station at 12:15, or near the railway station at 12:18. Alight 12:37 at (or near) the Boot Inn, Houghton. Either stay here for about three hours or walk to the John O'Gaunt Inn, Horsebridge for a beer there as well; it's about a 2 mile/40 minute walk. Leave John O'Gaunt for the 15:28 bus back to Romsey where there are a number of other pubs to visit.

Bluestar information including timetables can be found here. A £3 per bus journey fare applies, so £6 for the above plan. If you use other Bluestar buses as well the day fare should cap at £10.60, or £11.60 including Salisbury Reds buses.

Getting to Romsey in the first place and getting home afterwards is probably best by walking or train.

An alternative if the weather isn't suitable for walking between the pubs, or you just don't fancy the walk, is to spend the whole time between the TVR buses in either the John O'Gaunt or the Boot.
